FALLEN BLOCKS

A tribute to Pragati Maidan, an exhibition area in India that was demolished. It was the world’s first and largest concrete space frame structure. The exhibition space is a quarter of the original building with the top half sunk within. The concept of the exhibition space is ‘fallen blocks’, which represents the broken pieces keeping the history of this building alive, despite its demolition. The visitors are encouraged to walk over the fallen pieces to explore the objects on display. As a memoir to the architecture, a set of objects have been designed using lightweight concrete and wood, based on the concept of balance. The colors are derived from the shades that the building appeared in through the day, with the effect of sunlight and the form is derived from the triangular frame.
