IVY BOUTIQUE HOTEL

A boutique hotel in the heart of Milan that embraces nature. At the entrance is an infinite edge water feature that directs the path of movement and helps in creating an ambient temperature and a soothing background music for the outdoor seating. The facade has been specifically designed using ETFE tubes filled with algae and water, sandwiched between glass panels. When there’s more sunlight, the algae thickens, providing shade and avoiding the penetration of heat, thus avoiding the need for excessive artificial cooling. The bio facade constantly changes with the reaction of algae to sunlight.

The concept is to bring the vegetation into the interior spaces. Integrated planters in the bespoke furniture and ivy from the ceiling create a cocoon of natural vegetation.

The reception, lounge and cafe are treated as free flowing spaces with minimum barrier. The use of mirrors helps to make the space look much bigger. Elements of nature have been incorporated in the design, like the brass panel in the reception that represents the bark of the tree, the reception table inspired from the rays of the sun, the mother of pearl inlay in marble flooring which is like a welcome with petals and the mirrors on the ceiling around the lift that form a tree.

The green wall encloses the hotel space from other commercial activity around it . Informal seating groups in the courtyard flanked by water cascades creates the perfect setting to wind up the day.
